The museum was destroyed in an airstrike on the city of Mariupol on March 21, 2022 [UQ1]. According to the Mariupol City Council, several exhibits were looted by Russian soldiers and taken to Donetsk [UQ2]. According to the Kremlin-affiliated channel Izvestia TV, the director handed over the objects voluntarily [UQ2]. The Kuindzhi Museum of Mariupol opened in 2010 and served as an art museum [UQ1]. Arkhip Kuindzhi was born in Mariupol and was an original member of the Russian Realist movement "The Wanderers." [UQ1]. He is considered one of the most important representatives of Realist landscape painting, and several of his original works were exhibited in the museum dedicated to him in Mariupol [UQ1].
