In 1999, the mosque was damaged for the first time, likely by arson [JQ1]. Although much was destroyed by the fire, some parts of the mosque remained standing. However, in 2000, the Saudi Joint Relief Committee was granted permission to restore the complex. Instead of restoring it, they demolished the damaged library and simply bulldozed the adjacent cemetery, which had been damaged in previous attacks [JQ2].
The Hadum Mosque was built in Gjakova in 1594 and is considered a classic example of Islamic architecture in the Balkans [JQ2].
